Welcome to the Huawei Watch GT review!
Lets begin with what is important about the hardware. I will show you the standard edition which cost around 190USD and maybe because of the issues Huawei has in the USA and the not too clear niche, it often gets discounted down to 140 dollars, which already is a great price for that combo.
One thing we can say for sure the display is stunning for that price range, 1.39 inch. Rumors point to a custom designed Cortex M4 dual-core CPU, 16MB RAM, 128MB storage for the OS, and proprietary LITE OS. We can make two major s based on that the Huawei Watch GT is more or less a fitness tracker on steroids, and brings way less computing power than competitors, like the Amazfit series.
There are two buttons the top one either home button, or entering the main menu. The bottom one is for sports and this , combined with the touch is about the navigation.
Let’s mention two more major features: watchfaces as of April 2019 I can see only 14.
No way to add custom watchfaces. I didnt see that coming when I was purchasing the watch.
But because this goes too much in direction criticizing this is the best part your real time health data. Continuous heart rate done the right way! Perhaps the best implemented feature, and this likely is the best looking heartrate chart Ive seen on a smartwatch. Period. But you cant go into historical data unless you check that from the phone. Last interesting feature to mention barometer which is not super accurate, but nice to have. And I also happen to use the torch from time to time!
As a third main component lets explore the smartphone app. Unsurpisingly it is the same app as the one used by Honor Band 4 called Health.
The vital data is precious, and very well grouped. If you analyze some of the sport activities thanks to the GPS if these are outdoor workouts there will be detailed statistics about everything important. I have recorded a few workouts, and data is rather accurate if I compare to statistical data from similar activities Ive done before with other devices.
No, it doesnt have android Wear because it brings 10 to 20 times better battery life than android Wear devices. No possibility for watchfaces, but lets say that the currently available 14 of them are quite good. Simple interface, hardware, which is just good enough to run these fitness-tracker grade features. No phone calls support, but you can swim with it. You see Huawei have been very very smart about it. Maybe I dont see the niche because it packs a little bit of everything to create this imperfect, but good Smartwatch! And once again proves that Wear OS is in a serious trouble…
