Unboxing and hands-on review with Fossil’s Gen 5 smartwatch, one of the best Android Wear OS watches of 2019. We show you what’s in the box, setup the smartwatch and check out those new features, including a built-in speaker, new extended battery mode, the latest Wear OS and more.
The Fossil Gen 5 costs 279 in the UK, which is comparable to the Apple Watch and other premium devices, and works with Android or iOS. So far I’m enjoying the sleek and relatively slender design, as well as the fully-featured functionality. You can use the Google Assistant phone-free thanks to the mic and speaker, while the 1.3-inch AMOLED screen is crisp and colourful.
Performance is also a winner thanks to the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, backed by 1GB RAM. Wear OS runs like a dream on this smartwatch, so it’s one of the greatest for speed. Battery life I’m still testing, so stay tuned for my full Gen 5 review in a week or so.
